LOWER MANHATTAN FROM BROOKLYN PROMENADES

Lower Manhattan from Brooklyn Promenades - Linear Painting by Prakash N Chandras

Lower Manhattan from Brooklyn Promenades

The best views of Manhattan’s skyline can be viewed by Hoboken, N.J., Staten Island and from Brooklyn. It was my practice to travel on subway on Saturday mornings and find a view to paint. Many times I would go the last stop of the subway line since it cost me the same, 50 cents. I have painted sites of Vanderbilt Park, Coney Island, Hoboken, Sheepshead Bay, Hell’s Kitchen, and couple others. On one Saturday morning, I went to Brooklyn to the Promenades where you can get a fantastic view of lower Manhattan. Originally I painted a realistic painting from this spot.  When I returned to my studio, I transformed it to a linearism painting.  One of my friends from Japan, Mas, related that he played tennis in the bubble building in the front.  South Seaport Museum is also located in the same area where FDR ends.
