Golden gate bridge at night

The first time one looks at the Golden Gate Bridge, that image is etched in one’s memory forever. My first view of the bridge was at night, soon after they had installed the lights on the bridge. It was the most exquisite view and that’s the view I tried to capture in this painting.

On the 50th anniversary, they closed the bridge for the traffic and allowed people to walk on it. Thousands of people walked on from the both sides and once they reached the middle they had nowhere to go. People kept coming from either ends and the people in the middle began to panic. The weight of all the people actually buckled the bridge! Everybody got off safe with the help of police. There are so many stories good and bad, happy and sad, romances and suicides about this bridge that almost everybody knows one. I painted the bridge so viewers’ stories could be provoked. One viewer mentioned that he could not look at the painting without thinking of his girlfriend who had jumped off that bridge.
