The Black Cross is a painting by Georgia O’Keeffe. I had lived in New Mexico for 5 years and had seen the colored hills and weathered bones and old cemeteries, the subject matters of O’Keeffe’s paintings. This painting of the black cross by her brought back many memories of those 5 years and the youthful explorations. I decide to paint the same image, but this one, on one of my own sheet metal sculpture of a cross. The beautiful sun set colors and the early evening star behind the big dark imposing cross make this painting mystical and spiritual.
