Diamondhead, Hawaii - Linear Painting by Prakash N Chandras

Diamondhead, Hawaii

One image that used to come to my mind whenever I thought of Hawaii, was the image of the massive looking Diamond Head Mountain peering from behind the Waikiki hotels and the beach. Well the first day we got there, our gracious but little too enthusiastic (we thought) host, Dan Berman, wanetd us to climb to the top of the Diamond Head. We thought we were on a vacation! Anyway, it turned out that, from the other side through a tunnel you can go up to the middle of the bowl of the volcano, and its only a half an hour hike to the very top from there. The view is magnificent from the top.

This painting is from an oil sketch I did from Angel Island in Honolulu looking towards the Waikiki Beach and Diamondhead. Magic Island is where our hosts and dearest friends, Dan and Liz, walk to for their daily exercise. What a view!

Sunny days and a gentle breeze were the daily weather when we were in Hawaii. I took complete advantage of that and did 2 to 3 landscapes everyday. One of the bonus of doing a large painting in the studio from an, on sight sketch, is that, while doing the painting my mind is usually flooded with the memories of the day when I did them on location sketch. In my mind I almost relive that time. I get to time travel back to that place, a trip to Hawaii!
