Blossoming of a Relationship - Linear Painting - P Chandras

Blossoming of a Relationship

While climbing a mountain or hiking, one stops and looks back to see how far one has come. With the same feeling, this painting was done as an expression of looking back on my life and seeing how far I had come. It had been 11 years that I had been in a relationship with Karen.  I had been painting full time since 1975. I had lived in that ocean of art, New York City, and had immersed myself in it. I had attended Art Students League for four years and had become proficient at representational art. I had worked in a New York art gallery and had learned custom art framing, art restoration of works on paper and canvas. Then I was promoted to work as an exhibition designer and a preparator. I had been able to use my MBA knowledge and had climbed the gallery ladder to become an assistant sales person for the gallery and later on a Director.

They say that the best time to leave a job is when you are at the top. Right after that I left the job to pursue my MFA in painting in California. Karen was successful in establishing her business and her hard work was paying off. She had been a constant motivational, emotional and financial support for me. That allowed me to work harder and pursue my goals without any worries. We had purchased a house on a cul-de-sac, which provided me with a quiet and safe studio. I had produced many paintings in linear abstraction and had more than a dozen shows in the local galleries and museums. We had traveled to India and New York several times.  Life looked good and in the spring of  ’87 we were pregnant with our first child, Jessica. That was the icing on the cake. That is what made me to look back and see how far we had come. I realize how our relationship had blossomed. This painting is the expression of that blossoming.
