Homage to Van Gogh - Linear Painting by Prakash N Chandras

Homage to Van Gogh

During the remodeling and building of the studio, I did not get much time to paint.  As a result, I read more than painted.  I happened to pull from my boxed library, my 3 volumes of Vincent van Gogh’s letters, reading chronologically.  I relished his thoughts about painting and life through his letters.  I immersed myself in his daily painting activities. I realized once again how passionate Vincent van Gogh was about painting and life as I had once read his letters in 1981 in NYC.  As soon as the studio was completed I decided to paint homage to Vincent van Gogh. Since I had seen the original “Starry Night” several months below in New York, my first painting in the studio turned out to be the Homage to Vincent van Gogh. Once I started the painting, I realized that towards the ending of van Gogh’s life, his painting in parallel brush strokes looked almost like my linearism painting. This homage was the painting redoing his “Starry Night”, the same size as his “Starry Night”, in linearism style.
